Harriet Beecher Stowe's Family Connection to Simsbury

Donna Hopkins,
historian of the First Church of Christ and contributing writer to the book “To
Sette Ourselves in Gospel Order,” will talk about Harriet Beecher Stowe’s
children: Charles “Charlie” Edward Stowe and his twin sisters, Hatty and Eliza,
and their lives in Simsbury. Charlie was senior pastor of First Church from
1891-1899, making his home in a Victorian house on Hopmeadow Street. The
sisters lived around the corner on Hopmeadow just past Seminary Road. Donna
will present photographs of the children, their families and their Simsbury
lives. She will discuss their daily activities, Charlie’s pastorate, his sense
of humor and his legacy. March 25, 2 p.m. at the Ellsworth Visitor’s
