Historical Book Discussion - Manhunt: The 12-Day Chase for Lincoln’s Killer

As part of its ongoing effort to expand programming, the Simsbury Free Library (SFL) is launching a biography and/or historical fiction book and movie club in March 2012.  Ideally, the SFL will offer two clubs, one which meets during the day and another which meets in the evening.  Additional dates and times are still being determined, but the first book and movie and dates have been selected.  They are:

Discussion of the book will take place Tuesday, March 6, 2012 at 1 p.m.  Eunice Kelly of the Friends of the Simsbury Public Library will be leading the discussion in this cooperative effort from the Simsbury Free Library and the Friends Group.

The Conspirator

Directed by Robert Redford, this 2010 film tells the story of Mary Surratt, the lone female charged as a co-conspirator in the assassination trial of Abraham Lincoln. As the whole nation turns against her, she is forced to rely on her reluctant lawyer to uncover the truth and save her life.

Screening and Discussion of the movie will take place Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at 1 p.m.
