Providence & Newport Bus Trip

The Friends of the Simsbury Public Library will host a bus trip to Rhode Island, beginning with a docent-led tour of the Museum of Art-Rhode Island School of Design in Providence where we’re introduced to the highlights of the permanent collection.

We’ll also visit the museum’s “Changing Poses: The Artists’ Model” exhibit, that shows how the human figure is an essential tool for artists. Since ancient times, models ranging from professional to anonymous in various poses have fueled the creativity of artists such as Rembrandt, John Singer Sargent, Picasso, Warhol and others.

Then enjoy the museum’s “Cocktail Culture” exhibit. This multi-disciplinary show explores the social ritual of “drinking and entertainment” through the lens of fashion and design. The exhibit features over 220 objects of decorative arts and attire by Balenciaga, Chanel, Dior, Givenchy, Lanvin, Saint Laurent, Patou and others.

After the Museum, we’ll board the bus for a short ride to the bay-front restaurant in Newport, The Moorings. This sunny restaurant is one of Newport’s favorites. There's be a bit of shoping time after lunch. After that, we’ll board the bus for home with refreshments along  the way.

The bus departs promptly at 8:15 a.m. from the Stop and Shop Parking Lot adjacent to Bushy Hill Rd. It will return by approximately 5:30 p.m. The cost for the trip is $78 per person (includes bus, museum, admission & docent tours and lunch, plus morning and afternoon snacks and beverages).
