For the uninitiated, Simsbury is the home of more than just great schools, great parks and recreation, and great summer orchestra music. It’s the home of one of the hottest bands in the country, The McLovins, who are bringing their considerable talents to the Simsbury Performing Arts Center on September 2nd.
The McLovins, comprised of the Connecticut music prodigies Jake Huffman, Jeff Howard, and Jason Ott, are a progressive jam, improvisational rock band that has produced two original albums, improvises extensively on their own songs, and also covers a wide array of newer and older tunes including those from bands like Phish, Rush, Grateful Dead, The Doors, Sugarhill Gang, The Meters, and more. What is truly unique about the McLovins is that they are far younger than most up and coming bands, anywhere. But make no mistake: they have talent. So much so, that Elmore Magazine named them in the top 11 Artists to Watch in 2011! “The good ears at Elmore have taken a hard listen to and hard look at 11 artists we think will break through a barrier in 2011…”
The McLovin’s combination of youth, and talent, continues to amaze, with praise like: “In a genre of music that normally requires a good three years of 100+ shows and slow burn word of mouth publicity, the McLovins appear to be the first band in the jam scene to actually blow up.” (Hidden Track); “Seriously, a psychedelic concept album from a group of teenagers. Color me impressed.” (Jamtopia)
