Feed The Birds Naturally In Simsbury

Local conservation groups on Thursday, April 27, are hosting a special program on what can be planted in the yard to attract and feed birds.

SIMSBURY, CT — Organizers looking to create the "Simsbury Pollinator Pathway" in town are hosting a special event on Thursday regarding naturally feeding birds and what birds to attract.

The free program — called "Beyond Birdfeeders: Creating a Bird Buffet" — will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 25, at the Simsbury United Methodist Church's Wesley Hall, located at 799 Hopmeadow St.

There, guests will be able to learn about ways to feed the birds, along with do's and don'ts associated with the practice and, specifically, how to feed them without birdseed.

Local bird expert Margery Winters will be on hand to discuss the best plants to plant to help feed the birds as, according to organizers, "birds do not (and shouldn't) live by birdseed alone."

The goal it to promote "critical biodiversity" in neighborhoods.
