Fire Leaves Climax Road Home in Simsbury With Extensive Damage
The Thursday night fire means the residents will not be able to live in the home.
A fire at 52 Climax Road in Simsbury has left the home uninhabitable.
No one was home at the time of the fire and no pets were found inside, according to fire officials. According to town records, the owners of the home are Patrisse M. and Demetrios L. Spelios.
The fire at the two-story home, built in 1950, appears to have started on the first floor, said Fire Marshal Kevin Kowalski.

It is too early to determine what caused the fire, but Kowalski said that damage to the first floor was extensive and damage to the second floor was primarily caused by heat and smoke.
A neighbor of the Climax Road home called the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company at 6:04 p.m. Thursday to report the blaze, First Assistant Chief Patrick T. Tourville said.

The Tanker Strike Team 54 was sent because there are no hydrants in the area. Volunteers from Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Burlington, Farmington and Lost Acres (the Granby volunteer fire department) provided or were poised to provide mutual aid.
There were more than half a dozen fire trucks on the scene and about two dozen firefighters, many whom were covered with soot and steaming as they removed their protective gear and grabbed some water.
Kowalski said the fire was put out in about 15 minutes. The sounds of breaking glass could be heard as firefighters took out the windows on the second floor in order to ventilate.
“You got to get the heat out,” Kowalski said.
There were firefighters on the roof and on a ladder removing items from the second floor as smoke still billowed out the windows.
The residence is near Alcima Drive, but the address is Climax.
