A Fun-Filled End to the Season for Simsbury Crew

The Simsbury Crew competed in their final regatta of the fall season this past Saturday, November 4. They travelled to Farmington to compete against Farmington, Avon and Lewis Mills in the much anticipated 14th annual Pumpkinhead regatta, which is hosted by Farmington Crew . These 4 high school teams celebrate the end of the fall season with some friendly competition, with each boat adopting themed costumes as they race the course on the Farmington River.

The boys 1st Varsity boat were dressed as the Joker and his Henchman and achieved 4th place. The boys 2nd Varsity boat were rowed by ferocious vikings who came in 5th. The boys 1st Junior Varsity boat, dressed up as M&M’s and took the 3rd spot. The boys novice boat all dressed up as ‘monkeys in a barrel’ and came in 3rd place.

The girls first Varsity boat, all dressed as superheroes and took 2nd place. The girls 2nd Varsity boat, dressed as football players, and took the 5th spot. The girls Junior Varsity were dressed as various characters from the Wizard of Oz, and claimed 2nd place. Finally, the girls novice boat, dressed up as bikers and surfers from the ‘Team Beach Movie’, came in 4th.

Athletes and coaches will now be swapping their oars for rakes. They have spent this raking and clearing leaves in local gardens, as a form of fundraising for the team. They will be continuing with this fundraiser this coming week as well. Athletes will also take the winter off and spend the time maintaining their fitness levels in order to be fully prepared for the start of the spring season.
