The Fusion of Art and Music: Jack Brin Video Series
Art and music with a common theme come together in this unique video series created by Jack Brin.
Monday, July 11, 25 and August 8, 1:00-3:00 pm, Simsbury Public Library Program Room
On Monday, July 11, “Americana in Painting and Music” features American subjects interpreted by American artists and composers, starting with tributes to our founders, and ending with the rarely heard American Suite by Charles Wakefield Cadman.
July 25 brings “Ravel and Relaxation” - This program started with a 30 minute tape designed to relax Jack to sleep with beautiful music. Later, the works by Ravel were supplemented with paintings that had been photographed at the Cornell Gallery in Springfield, MA.

August 8 features paintings from the Wadsworth Atheneum, with music. Forty years ago, Jack took a cross-country trip to 25 museums. The closest first-rate museum, being in Hartford, was visited most frequently with camera. There are easily 100 works of art there that lend themselves to music, of which 42 are in this program.
Presenter Jack Brin is a retired professor of mathematics at Western New England College. During his tenure, he created a music history/appreciation course and he developed some slide-tape programs combining common themes in art and music. He has continued this “hobby” for 40 years.
