UPDATED: Garage Fire on Brownstone Turn

No one was injured and damage was minor.

Update: Last night's fire was in fact caused by a lightning strike within the area of the house, said Assistant Fire Chief/Deputy Fire Marshal Patrick Tourville.

The thinking is that the late afternoon thunderstorm that rumbled through Simsbury left its mark on a Brownstone Turn home's garage.

At 8:38 p.m. Monday night, a call from 10 Brownstone Turn came into the fire department reporting the smell of smoke. Assistant Fire Chief Patrick Tourville said the fire was limited to wiring in the garage wall.

The likely suspect? Lightning.

Tourville won't know for sure whether it was lightning until he completes his investigation, which he was continuing that evening. He said there was no significant damage to the garage and the fire was out.

Tourville, who said he was at a fire training drill when the call came in, said this was the only storm related incident the department was called out for.

A neighbor who was observing the activity on his street said if it turns out to be a lightning strike, it will be the third one to a home on Brownstone Turn since 2006.
