Gina Trovato Receives Lt. Richard F. Kelleher Memorial Scholarship

Gina Trovato, Simsbury High School class of 2024, received the Lieutenant Richard F. Kelleher Memorial Scholarship given by the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company.

Trovato will attend Wheaton College in Norton, MA where she will major in elementary education. She plans to continue playing soccer.

While at Simsbury High School, she played soccer for three years and was a member of the team that won the state championship. As a senior she was elected to the National Business Honor Society. She participated in a program to run the school store, selling a variety of items, including snacks and sweatshirts. For her Capstone Experience she worked with a program that gave high school students who were not participating in sports the chance to experience football and volleyball by joining the team for a part of the season.

Trovato joined the Fire Company as soon as she could, at age 15, and was a Captain in the Junior Firefighter program.

This summer she is a swim coach, swim instructor and lifeguard at Simsbury Farms. She is the daughter of Chris and Susan Trovato. Gina’s brother, Sal, was the scholarship recipient in 2021.

The Kelleher scholarship was established in 1983 and is given annually in memory of the first Simsbury firefighter to die in the line of duty.
