Haneef Nelson and Friends Perform at Westminster School Jan. 31

The public is invited to a free jazz concert with noted trumpeter Haneef Nelson and his band.

Haneef Nelson and Friends will perform at Westminster School Jan. 31 as part of the school’s Friday Nights at Westminster series of concerts and readings held during the academic year.

Nelson is a trumpeter and adjunct professor of jazz history at Keene State College. He also teaches at the University of Massachusetts. He has given master classes and workshops in various educational and professional settings and has spent time recording with various gospel and jazz artists. He is the founder and president of Neefjazz Entertainment, which curates the Jazz Mondays events at Black-Eyed Sally’s in Hartford.

At Westminster, Nelson will be performing on the trumpet/flugelhorn with Sean Berry on tenor sax, Taber Gable on piano, Alex Tremblay on bass and Mike Camacho on drums. The performance is free and open to the public and will begin at 7 p.m. in the Gund Reading Room of the school’s Armour Academic Center. The school is located at 995 Hopmeadow St. in Simsbury. Ample parking will be available in the parking lot adjacent to Armour Academic Center.
