Hearing on Prohibition Ordinance on Town Property

November 13, 2023 Public Hearing Ordinance Tobacco, Vaping,and Cannabis prohibited on Town Property

The issues that this Ordinance is supposed to address is , “the health and safety of all individuals who use public property.”

There is a high preponderance of alcohol consumption in the Simsbury Community affecting families and the Simsbury Board of Selectmen refuses to add alcohol consumption on Town Property to the Ordinance.

Alcohol consumption on Town property is a liability to the Town.

It appears that the addition of alcohol to the Ordinance might offend a large constituency in Simsbury, although health and safety is a prime issue with alcohol consumption.

Without the addition of alcohol to the Ordinance the Board is not sincere in promoting this Ordinance for health and safety..

The second Ordinance has areas of exception, designating the Golf Course as an exception., carving town property into segments of exception. The Golf Course is the playground for the special interests that refuse to have their behavior regulated, making this Ordinance an insincere attempt to regulate behavior.

It appears that this Ordinance is difficult if not impossible to enforce.

The Ordinance appears to be a “paper tiger” that will only pit one person against another, signifying nothing.

If the Town was serious about their concerns about the health and safety of the community, they would not carve out areas of exception, designating the Golf Course as a safe area where there is no need to regulate peoples behavior.

The Town should use their clout to institute behavior modification by approving events without the sale and use of alcohol and not approve concerts with the use of cannabis, vaping products and tobacco.

Until the Town is sincere in their efforts to protect the health and safety of the community and restrict the use of Alcohol, Vaping Tobacco and Cannabis on Town property the Ordinances should be rejected .
