High School Golfer from Simsbury Wins State Award
The award is given to the junior golfer who best represents character, sportsmanship and leadership, on and off the golf course.

SIMSBURY, CT — Montana McMahon of Simsbury, a senior at Pope Francis High School in Springfield, Mass., recently received the 2016 Jack Kelly Sportsmanship Award from the Connecticut Section PGA (which encompasses Connecticut and Western Massachusetts).
The award, given to the junior golfer who best represents character, sportsmanship and leadership, on and off the golf course, was presented Nov. 28 at the Hall of Fame & Champions Tribute at Lake of Isles Golf Club at Foxwoods Resort.
Montana is known on tour by Connecticut PGA staff and officials, PGA professionals, and fellow junior players and parents, for her outgoing personality, her smile, and her positive attitude.

There are about 400 players on the Connecticut Junior Golf Tour. Montana played in 14 tournaments this summer and has been recruited to play college golf. She regularly gives back to the community through golf, as she has been a Top Junior Donor for Birdies for Charity and spent this summer as a volunteer golf instructor with the Connecticut Special Olympics Golf Program. She also spent three weeks involved in Youth Missions work this summer, spreading faith while assisting with young children in need of academic help.
A first honors recipient at Pope Francis High School, Montana has a 4.57 GPA this quarter. She is enrolled in three Advanced Placement classes, one International Baccalaureate class, and two honors classes.
