New Simsbury ABC board member Cathy Bartell was seeking a project to improve the ABC house at 835 Hopmeadow St. So she spoke to her neighbor, Gary Holloway, owner of Holloways Appliance Center. Working with the ABC chef, Kelley Lanahan, Cathy and Gary put together a plan for a much needed upgrade to the kitchen. Thanks to Gary, ABC house has gone from older refrigerators and stoves to a modern suite of equipment that Chef Kelley can use to cook meals for the ABC scholars.
Holloway’s has supported Simsbury ABC for decades, and this latest is another chapter in their support. It is an example of the kind of generous support that the businesses, civic organizations and citizens of Simsbury have provided to Simsbury ABC for the 43 years of its existence.

Simsbury ABC competitively selects students who have demonstrated academic promise and invites them to Simsbury where they attend Simsbury High School for four years. Since 1973, Simsbury ABC has graduated over 80 students, and 98% of these graduates have gone on to successfully complete college. Many have gone on to graduate school and have become leaders in their industries and communities.
Simsbury ABC is a non-profit college preparatory program that brings academically gifted boys of color from the northeast region to Simsbury and provides room and board, tutoring and a home like environment while they attend Simsbury High School.
