Honor a Veteran on "Wreaths Across America Day" - Dec.17th

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day the mission to “Remember, Honor, and Teach” is carried out by the Abigail Phelps Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution as a sponsorship organization and a service to Simsbury and to all graves of veterans buried in the Simsbury cemeteries. By purchasing a wreath in memory of a veteran, you have the opportunity to join a grateful nation in saying “thank you” to our veterans. For placement in other local cemeteries, you can pick up your wreath(s) one to two days before.

This year the National Wreaths Across America Day is December 17th. The wreaths are handcrafted of all-American balsam and hand-tied with a red velvet bow in Columbia Falls, Maine, and then delivered to one of the 2800 participating locations all across America. The individual wreaths will then be placed on December 17th by a volunteer on the marker of a fallen hero all across America. That volunteer will “say their name” to ensure that the legacy of duty, service and sacrifice of that veteran is never forgotten. Each wreath is $15.

Order forms are available at the Simsbury Cemetery brochure box and at the following locations: The Senior center and the Social Services office, both at Eno Hall; The Simsbury Historical Society; Tulmeadow Farm; Anna’s Kitchen; Fitzgerald’s Foods; Simsbury Pharmacy; Simsbury Free Library; The Simsbury Public Library and The Granby Public Library.

The Abigail Phelps Chapter of the DAR’s mission is to inspire interest and support in historic preservation, education and patriotism which includes honoring veterans, cultivating citizenship, promoting conservation and volunteering in our communities, educating young scholars and recognizing those who serve in our communities. We have members in the Abigail Phelps Chapter from most towns in the north central area of Connecticut.
