Today's guest blogger is Mary Carey, who encourages Simsbury voters to elect Jay DeVivo to the Board of Selectmen:
I am writing to express my enthusiastic and unqualified support for Jay DeVivo as a member of the Board of Selectman of Simsbury.
Simsbury is a wonderful town, offering beautiful hiking and biking trails, outstanding cultural activities, great schools, a lovely and historic downtown and an outstanding library. I feel privileged to have lived here for 17 years. I have, however, great concerns with respect to the future of our town. Simsbury must make attracting business, expanding the tax base and cutting costs prudently a priority. The market value of Simsbury residential property has declined as people look to other towns with good schools and lower taxes. Regrettably, property taxes are such that many people leave Simsbury after their children finish school. Our future depends on responsibly expanding the tax base and cutting appropriate costs.
I have known Jay for many years, personally and professionally, and have the utmost confidence in him. I believe he would be an outstanding addition to the Board of Selectman. Jay is smart, energetic, creative and has excellent communication, interpersonal and marketing skills. Jay is an excellent businessman, knows how to get things done and can sell the many strengths of Simsbury to prospective employers. Jay has some bold and ambitious ideas for responsible growth, and is sensitive to costs. Jay loves Simsbury and will do a great job in preserving our unique character and making Simsbury economically attractive for all of our residents.
