Kaljulaid and Steijn Named Scholar Athletes

Simsbury High School Quarterback Steven Steijn and Lineman Christian Kaljulaid have earned the prestigious "Scholar Athlete" award presented by the Northern Connecticut chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. This award is given based on both outstanding academic achievement and excellence in football play.

Steijn and Kaljulaid, both captains on the 2012 Simsbury Football squad, received their awards and will have their names enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame in South Bend, Indiana. Simsbury High School has had 28 National Football Foundation/College Football Hall of Fame scholar athletes since the inception of the award, one of the highest count totals in Connecticut.

A full list of past and present award winners is available at the Simsbury Gridiron Club website, http://simsburygridiron.org/Page.asp?n=50120&snid=dMI%40X1E0_&org=simsburygridiron.org.

Steven Steijn will be attending James Madison in the fall. Christian Kaljulaid will be playing football for Union College. Both players were coached by Jeff Osborne, head football coach, Simsbury High School.
