Simsbury Market Announces Upgrades To Iconic Store

The owners purchased the multi-decade landmark more than a year ago.

SIMSBURY, CT — A longtime local specialty food store continues to evolve after its new owners purchased the well-known establishment.

Shawn Skehan purchased the business at 1310 Hopmeadow St. in March 2021 from the original owner, Bob Kane.

Since he took over, Skehan has been making various improvements such as all new interior paint, purchased a meat smoker, reorganized the store and stocking items of interest to potential customers.

He is also expanding the catering operations.

A Simsbury resident, Skehan is a former restaurant owner and true foodie and is passionate about food, finding new ways to prepare it and getting others excited about it.

Kane’s does not compete with the larger grocery stores, rather they consider themselves a specialty market that carry items not commonly available at the big box stores.

Kane’s provides custom cuts of meat, house made sauces and spices, smaller brands from local vendors or hard to find items.

They also pride themselves on customer interaction and building relationships with residents from Simsbury and surrounding communities.

In addition to the deli, Kane’s offers an assortment of prepared foods, house made soups and green salads for those on the go.
