Longtime Simsbury Fire Official Marks 50 Years Of Service

The deputy chief of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Co. started in town back in 1974.

SIMSBURY, CT — If you happen to see Simsbury Volunteer Fire Co. Deputy Chief Kevin Kowalski around town, thank him ... then congratulate him.

The SVFC said this week that Kowalski celebrated 50 years with the department, a remarkable run of public service, bravery, and dedication.

"The SVFC would like to congratulate Deputy Chief Kevin Kowalski. Today he celebrates an incredible 50 years of service with the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company," wrote the SVFD Oct. 28.

"Thank you for your dedication to the Department and the Town of Simsbury."

He started as the SVFC back in 1974, shortly after Richard Nixon resigned from office.

Since then, the veteran firefighter has not only served Simsbury but also his country.

He became a master sergeant in the Connecticut Air National Guard and was assistant chief of operations at the Guard base at Bradley International Airport.

He has also been fire chief at Kaman Aerospace Corp., a task that included directing an aircraft rescue team.

Since 1988, Kowalski has been the fire marshal in the Simsbury Fire District, serving as the town's fire prevention advocate and investigator of blazes locally.
