Did you know? New England provided ice not only for American iceboxes, but also exported ice to places as far away as India (and the ice arrived at its destination in profitable solid form!). The Simsbury Historical Society is looking for documentation (photos, written documents, locations, stories) and local knowledge of the 19th and early 20th century ice industry in our town. Also, many local Simsbury ponds, rivers or brooks played a role in supplying ice and SHS is looking for information about which bodies of water were used in the ice trade. If you have ancestors who worked in the trade and/or you can supply information on the Simsbury ice trade, we want to hear from you! Please call the Simsbury Historical Society at 860.658.2500 or email archives@simsburyhistory.org.
