Lt. Ken Boudreau of the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Company competed in the 2014 Fight for Air Climb, a fundraiser for the American Lung Association. Boudreau raised $3,399, just one dollar behind the top individual fundraiser, and he broke his 2013 record of raising over $3,100.
Boudreau completed the 34 flights of stairs in 10 minutes, 29 seconds. Firefighters were required to compete in NFPA compliant structural firefighting gear, which meant climbing with the weight of full firefighting gear, including boots, helmets and breathing apparatus.
This is his sixth consecutive climb in Hartford. Boudreau has also completed the Boston Fight for Air Climb twice. Held at One Boston Place, it is 41 flights of stairs.
