Major Road Project Starts This Week In Canton/Simsbury

The Connecticut DOT will begin a road resurfacing project along a busy state roadway that traverses both towns.

CANTON/SIMSBURY, CT — Drivers traveling on Route 309 in Canton and Simsbury should expect daytime lane closures beginning Thursday, July 9, as the Connecticut Department of Transportation starts a nearly monthlong milling and resurfacing project.

The project will improve a 4.74-mile stretch of Route 309 from Route 179 (Cherry Brook Road) in Canton to Route 167 in Simsbury.

Construction is scheduled to begin Thursday, July 9, and conclude Friday, July 31, weather permitting.

The work will be completed in two phases:

  • Milling: July 9 through July 17, performed by Black and Boucher.
  • Resurfacing: July 20 through July 31, performed by Palmer Paving Co.

Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Motorists can expect lane closures along Route 309 throughout the project area. Traffic control personnel and temporary signage will direct vehicles safely through the work zone.

CTDOT said the schedule may be modified or extended because of weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Drivers are encouraged to reduce speed, remain alert for construction crews and equipment, and allow extra travel time while work is underway.
