Man Found Dead Near River In Simsbury

The victim had been part of a missing person search involving Simsbury and state police Tuesday.

SIMSBURY, CT — A missing person's report Tuesday, sadly, ended with the discovery of a 57-year-man's body in a secluded, wooded area in town, according to the Simsbury Police Department Wednesday.

The SPD has identified the man as being Bernard Soldate, the subject of the missing person search.

Police said the situation does not appear to be criminal in nature, but is still being investigated.

On Tuesday, Jan. 10th, members of the Connecticut State Police Emergency Services K9 unit assisted members of the Simsbury Police Department Detective Division in the search, police said.

The search was conducted in a "secluded wooded area" on the north side of the Farmington River, which runs along Tariffville Road.

Police said at about 10:07 a.m., a state police search dog located the body of a deceased adult male, later identified as Soldate.

Soldate was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Office in Farmington to determine a cause of death.

"The department has made notifications to the family, offered and coordinated services, and is continuing to investigate the circumstances," wrote the SPD. "It does not appear to be criminal in nature."
