Men's Night Out Concert to Feature Male Singers of Simsbury
A special concert on November 3 will feature male singers, grades 5 - 12, and the UConn men's a cappella group: Conn-Men.
Get ready for “Men’s Night Out” on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Simsbury High School - a once-a-year concert featuring all-male singers, grades 5 - college age.
Started in 2014 by Simsbury High School Choral Director, Colleen Thompson, Men’s Night Out showcases the best of Simsbury’s male singers. The concert features performances by the SHS Combined Men’s Choir, which includes singers from three different choirs at Simsbury High School, songs from the Henry James Middle School Men’s 7th and 8th grade choir, and Simsbury High School’s men’s a cappella group, Unaccompanied Minors. A rare performance combining male singers grades 5-12 will close out the night.
Special guests this year are Conn-Men, the men’s a cappella singing group from the University of Connecticut. Started in the fall of 2001 by R.J. Panda and Chris Dresko, the group set out to “change the face of a cappella at UConn by forming a group which excelled in musicality and performance presence. The original members set a standard of excellence that is still upheld in the group today. Individual vocal development, originality, musicality, and loyalty to the group are just a few of the qualities set in place by the first Conn-Men.” More information about the group can be found on their website: conn-men.org.

The evening’s finale will feature male singers from all Simsbury schools, grades 5 - 12. The group gathered for pizza and rehearsal this week, and will sing together to close the concert. This opportunity for young singers, grades 5 & 6, to perform with the best of middle school and high school singers in town is unique to this event.
