Simsbury Theater Group Seeks Musical Thespians
The Simsbury Light Opera Co. is putting on two different shows in the spring and auditions will begin this weekend.
SIMSBURY, CT — If you can belt out a tune and always loved theater, a Simsbury organization could use your services starting this weekend.
The Simsbury Light Opera Co. is hosting auditions for its spring 2023 performances of Gilbert and Sullivan’s "The Sorcerer" and "Trial by Jury."
Auditions will take place on Sunday, Nov. 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Church, Palmer Hall (entry in back), located at 689 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury and Tuesday, Nov. 15, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Basingstoke (the company’s rehearsal space), 5 Herman Drive, also in Simsbury.

Those auditioning for principal roles may be asked to read a few lines from the libretto.

With many roles to be cast, SLOCO welcomes performers of all ages, male and female.
Both shows will be performed during SLOCO’s spring production, April 22, 23, 29 and 30 at Henry James Memorial School in Simsbury.
Rehearsals leading up to the performances will be held Sunday nights for the full cast and also Tuesday nights for principals.
All cast members will need to show proof of Covid-19 vaccination or a physician’s note excusing the required vaccination.
The artistic director, Renee Haines, and musical director Nathaniel Baker will lead the Spring performances of "The Sorcerer," which SLOCO last performed in 2016, and "Trial by Jury," last performed by the company in 2015.
"'The Sorcerer' is a sweet love story about a young man who hires a sorcerer to brew a love potion that causes the villagers to fall in love with the first person they see, resulting in a comedy of mismatched lovers," wrote SLOCO.
"Trial by Jury is a one-act, comic operetta about a breach of marriage lawsuit. The judge and British legal system are objects of light-hearted satire, and the plot is full of ludicrous twists and turns," wrote SLOCO.
Simsbury Light Opera Co. is a volunteer community theater group.
