New Year, New Sunday Clubs at the Storyteller's Cottage

Starting this January, the Storyteller’s Cottage will host new, exciting clubs and activities for adults on Sunday afternoons: Les Deux Magots, the Bard’s Bistro, Murder in the Library, and Fictional Feasts.

Les Deux Magots: Literary Cafe

  • First Sundays | 3:30-5:00 pm
  • Cost per meeting: $8 online, or $10 at the door
  • Les Deux Magots is an iconic café in the Saint-Germain-des-Prés area of Paris, France, known as a famous rendezvous point for the literary and intellectual élite of the city. Authors and thinkers such as Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, James Joyce, and even Julia Child were known to frequent this lovely bistro. Guests can enjoy a stimulating Sunday afternoon sipping tea and chatting with fellow literary enthusiasts at the Storyteller’s Cottage’s very own version of Les Deux Magots.

The Bard’s Bistro: A Gathering of Songwriters

  • Cost per meeting: $5 online, or $7 at the door
  • The Storyteller’s Cottage is the center of a community of storytellers of all types, including musical storytellers. Guests can come with their song notebooks, ideas, and instruments to meet and jam with fellow songwriters. They can sing, chat, or just listen and spend an inspiring Sunday afternoon immersed in the magic of the story.

Murder in the Library

  • Third Sundays | 3:30-5:00 pm
  • Cost per meeting: $5 online, or $7 at the door
  • What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than pondering murder in an elegant Victorian library? Each month will feature a different local mystery author discussing their latest book. Guests may choose to read the book ahead of time or purchase a signed copy when they arrive. The cover charge includes tea and cookies.

Fictional Feasts: A Book & Food Pairing Club

  • Fourth Sundays | 3:30-5:00 pm
  • Cost per meeting: $10 online, or $15 at the door
  • From Harry Potter’s chocolate frogs to Anne of Green Gables’ raspberry cordial to the Turkish Delight from The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, classic literature is filled with iconic foods. Fictional Feasts is a cross between a book club and a tea party. Guests will celebrate and immerse themselves in their favorite classic novels as they chat about the stories and sample their quintessential cuisines. January’s meeting will feature heart-shaped cakes and snow candy from Little House on the Prairie. (Designed for ages 14-adult)

The Storyteller’s Cottage is located in a vintage Victorian house in the center of historic Simsbury, CT, and hosts all manner of immersive literary events throughout the year, including Agatha Christie inspired live murder mystery parties, Great Gatsby themed Jazz Supper Clubs, fascinating close-up illusions at Fine Parlor Magic nights, a Literary Dinner Party series on select evenings at midnight, and more.

The Storyteller's Cottage is located at 750 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. Parking for The Storyteller's Cottage is free, and is available on the street in front of the building, and in the Fiddler's Green parking lot on Wilcox Street (behind the house).
