SIMSBURY, CT — Local police this week said they have made one arrest in connection with the wild March 25 incident in town in which about 200 vehicles had a "takeover" on local roads.

The Simsbury Police Department said it has charged Manchester resident Tyler Bingham, 21, with engaging police in pursuit; reckless driving; failure to drive in the proper lane; and traveling unreasonably fast.

Police said he was released on $500 bond and will appear in Hartford Superior Court May 17.

Bingham, according to police, turned himself in on Monday regarding the incident last month.

In that incident, police said, about 50 vehicles were seen driving through Elm Street in town at about 11:40 p.m. that night.

Called a "vehicle takeover," the group of motorists were "disturbing the normal traffic pattern," according to police.

In addition to that incident, police reported seeing similar groups of vehicles throughout town and it was estimated that 200 vehicles were driving dangerously, burning out their tires, doing "doughnuts" and, generally, causing traffic mayhem in Simsbury.

According to police, one officer attempted to stop a vehicle and the driver did not stop "and, instead, began swerving the vehicle and revving the engine before fleeing."

Police said the officer did not engage in pursuit, "based on the circumstances," but did investigate the incident further.

It was through that subsequent probe police were able to identify and charge Bingham, the SPD said.

Police said more arrests are likely and they're attempting to identify several other drivers from that night.

The incident drew state headlines as Simsbury police released shocking footage of multiple incidents that showed just what they were up against that night.
