Cross country runners from Farmington Valley high schools found the combination of unseasonably warm weather and “The Green Monster” hill at Wickham Park to be a bit more than they expected at the State Open Friday.

Three FV teams qualified for the championships, but the best showing was 14th place by the Avon girls. Simsbury’s girls were 16th, while the Canton boys team wound up 21st.
