SIMSBURY, CT — Proving that one person's trash truly is somebody else's treasure, a popular serve in Simsbury is back and running for the season this weekend.

The Simsbury Swap Shop will open for the 2026 season on Saturday, April 4, offering residents a free way to donate and pick up reusable household items.

Located at the entrance to the town’s transfer station at 74 Wolcott Road, the Swap Shop will operate from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays, weather permitting, from April through October.

Run by the Simsbury Recycling Committee with support from community volunteers and members of the Simsbury Lions Club, the program aims to “reduce, reuse, and recycle” by diverting usable goods from the waste stream.

Residents can bring items from across the home — including attics, basements, and garages — to be considered for inclusion in the shop’s inventory.

All items are reviewed by the Swap Shop manager for safety, usefulness, and functionality before being accepted.

Those visiting the transfer station may also park at the Swap Shop to browse and take items at no cost.

Established in 2001, the Swap Shop marks its 25th year in 2026.

Over that time, thousands of items have been redistributed to residents, according to organizers, reducing waste and supporting the town’s public works efforts.

Officials encourage residents to participate throughout the season by donating, adopting, or both
