As Practice Opens, a Look at Simsbury Fall State Championships

SIMSBURY, CT — Thursday marks the official opening of practice for fall high school sports, and the first day gives every team hope and optimism that perhaps a state championship is in the cards.

A total of 25 Simsbury teams have captured state titles in fall sports in the past:

• field hockey (7): 2008 (L), 1997 (L), 1996 (L), 1988 (L), 1979 (L), 1975 (L), 1974 (L)
• girls soccer (7): 2005 (LL), 2000 (LL), 1994 (L), 1992 (L), 1987 (L), 1983 (L), 1982 (open)
• boys cross country (5): 2006 (L), 1994 (L/State Open), 1993 (L), 1992 (L), 1972 (L)
• boys soccer (4): 2006 (LL), 2003 (LL), 1992 (LL), 1981 (LL)
• girls cross country (2): 2007 (L), 2005 (L)
