Public Invited To Create Mosaic Art

Celebrate "Arts Day" in Simsbury on Feb. 11

Residents of all ages are invited to stop by the Simsbury Library, Children’s Discovery Room, on Saturday, Feb. 11, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. to help create a mosaic mural representing the arts in Simsbury.

Each “artist” will be asked to draw or color on a postcard-size art card, answering the question: “What do the arts in my town mean to me?”

The cards will be collected and added to a larger mural that is being created for each of the 34 towns in the central Connecticut service area of the Greater Hartford Arts Council, the organization sponsoring the project.  The Council will display the completed murals as a group in the spring, possibly at Bushnell Park, and then return each to its home community for local display.

To kick-off the event, Simsbury First Selectman Mary Glassman will read a proclamation declaring February 11 as “Arts Day” in Simsbury.

"Our community is rich with all kinds of arts opportunities; music, painting, dance, performance," said First Selectman Glassman. "A mural is a wonderful way to express what the arts mean to us on a personal level.
