Household Hazardous Waste Collection Scheduled In Simsbury Saturday
The event is for residents of Simsbury, Farmington, Canton, Avon, Granby and Suffield.
SIMSBURY, CT — The final regional household hazardous waste collection event of 2023 will take place on Saturday, Oct. 7, in Simsbury.
Open to residents of Simsbury, Avon, Canton, Farmington, Granby and Suffield, the regional initiative hosted prior events in June in Simsbury and in Farmington back in March.
Saturday's collection will be at the Simsbury Public Works Facility, 66 Town Forest Road, Simsbury, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"These collections are for items that cannot go into the regular trash, keeping hazardous materials from being deposited into the landfill," wrote event organizers in an announcement.
Signage and staffers will guide participants on where they need to go during the collection and how to dispose of them.

Among a long list of accepted items are batteries; light bulbs (fluorescent and compact); lawn care chemicals; household cleaners; and household electronics, among other items.
Items not accepted include ammunition or explosives; asbestos; cement; business waste; freon; and medicine/drugs/needles/syringes, among other items.
