SeptemberFest and Chamber Home Improvement Show partner for fun-filled weekend

Set for Sept.7-9 with free fireworks, food, entertainment, exhibitors

Food, fun and family entertainment are the themes of the 2013 SeptemberFest celebration, scheduled for Sept. 6-8, at the Simsbury Performing Arts Center (PAC) on Iron Horse Blvd.

Live music, food vendors, a Business Expo and two-dozen Innovative Inflatables for children are only some of the attractions at the three-day SeptemberFest, which will kick-off on Sept. 6 with a free fireworks display at 9pm.

On Sat., Sept. 7, from 11a.m-5pm, SeptemberFest will again partner with the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce for the 6th annual, Home Improvement Show, showcasing more than 30 local home and commercial contractors.

"We're growing each year," said PAC manager Tom Vincent, who oversees SeptemberFest.  "More exhibitors, more food choices and more activities for children.  We'll have live entertainment every hour in the band shell and we're working on a retail tent."

He said that including the one-day, Chamber Home Improvement Show enhances SeptemberFest because "we want to draw in all segments of the community.  There's much more to offer."

Home Improvement Show Chairman Dennis Jacobs, of D.E. Jacobs Associates, said he expects a number of contractors to participate again this year.

"Hundreds of people attending SeptemberFest stop by to see what products and services are out there for home improvements," he added.

"And the timing is right from what I'm seeing in my business," said Jacobs, owner of a kitchen, bath and addition design/build contractor.  "I've seen a strong upswing this year in consumers spending money for home improvements."

During SeptemberFest, children can spend time jumping and sliding on the inflatables, Vincent said, while parents and other family members can take in the music and socialize.

Back by popular demand will be free rides on the Thomas the Tank Engine train, roaming puppeteers and clowns.

Adults can stop by the array of Business Expo exhibitors, which will include retail and service businesses, as well as non-profit organizations.  Many will offer giveaways and drawings.

"The Performing Arts Center is a great venue for SeptemberFest," Vincent said.  "There's free parking and ample room for families to enjoy a lovely fall day together.  We'll just keep our fingers crossed for good weather."
