Simsbury 2019 Elections: Candidates, Polling Places, Hours

Here's what you need to know concerning the 2019 Simsbury local elections, including the candidates, polling places and voting hours.

SIMSBURY, CT — Voters began heading to the polls at 6 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5 to vote in Simsbury’s municipal election. Positions of first selectman, Board of Selectmen, Board of Education, Board of Assessment Appeals and Planning Commission are all up for grabs.

Polls are open until 8 p.m. Voters who are in line before 8 p.m. will be able to vote even after the deadline passes.

Incumbent First Selectman Eric Wellman, a Democrat, is being challenged by Republican Board of Selectmen member Cheryl Cook, as well as petitioning candidate Robert Kalechman.

Incumbent Board of Selectmen members Chris Peterson, a Democrat, and Republicans Sean Askham and Mike Paine seek to retain their seats, with challengers including Democrats Wendy Mackstutis and Philip Purciello and Republican Jackie Battos.

Board of Education

Candidates for full term spots on the Board of Education are all incumbents: Republicans Jennifer Batchelar and Susan Salina, and Democrats Todd Burrick and Jeffrey Tindall.

Polling places in Simsbury are:

  • Henry James Memorial School - District #1
  • Latimer Lane School - District #2
  • Tootin Hills School - District #3
  • Tariffville School - District #4

Connecticut offers Election Day registration, but those who arrive need to be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote. Unlike previously registered voters, standing in line before 8 p.m. to registrar won't guarantee the ability to vote.
