Simsbury 250 Play To Honor Women Of The Revolution

Tickets are on sale now for the performance, which takes place from Friday to Sunday, March 6-8.

SIMSBURY, CT — The Simsbury 250th Celebration Committee will present a new play this weekend, highlighting the often-overlooked role of women during the American Revolution.

"The Seat Beside Her 3: Stories of the Revolution," written by local playwright Betsy Maguire, will be performed March 6–8 at the Garmany Performing Arts Center at the McLean senior living facility in Simsbury, 75 Great Pond Road.

The 75-minute costumed reading features a cast of eight and tells stories of women who supported the fight for American independence, often at personal risk to themselves and their families.

The production is scheduled during Women’s History Month.

“Over my 25years of playwriting, I’ve found a real niche in writing about trailblazing women throughout history, particularly those who are confined to the rare book rooms in libraries,” Maguire said in a statement. “I love to discover them, research them, and write their stories. Performing this play during Women’s History Month is a fitting tribute to so many brave women who were truly Revolutionary!”
