Simsbury 6th-Grader Wins National Art Contest

SIMSBURY, CT — A Simsbury sixth-grader recently was named a winner in a national art contest aimed at promoting the benefits of wind power as an energy source.

Helio Pinheiro, a student from Simsbury, was named a winner in the 2024 National Wind Energy Art Contest.

Her artwork was titled, “The Power of Wind Energy” and it was one of two winners in the sixth-grade division.

Through its partnership with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Wind Energy Technologies Office, the KidWind Project launched the first Wind Energy Art Contest this year.

The theme of the contest is “Beautiful Wind Energy,” highlighting the importance of wind energy and renewable energy education.

Winners received $200 and had their artwork on temporary display at the CLEANPOWER conference in Minneapolis, Minn., May 5-8, within the World KidWind Challenge space in Hall A of the Minneapolis Convention Center.

Winning artwork may also be curated in the public lobby of the U.S. Department of Energy’s office in Washington, D.C.
