Simsbury Actress Hits Big-Time With New Movie Release
The 27-year-old Simsbury High School graduate co-wrote and stars in the teen sex comedy 'Bottoms,' which was released nationally.
SIMSBURY, CT — A budding Hollywood superstar who was acting in Simsbury High School plays a decade ago has a new movie out, one in which she stars and co-wrote.
Actress and comedian Rachel Sennott graduated from SHS in 2014 and, since then, she has studied acting at New York University and practiced her craft for an international audience afterward. She currently lives in New York.
And, over the weekend, the sex comedy "Bottoms" was released in theaters nationwide, a film co-written by Sennott and starring the 27-year-old.

An R-rated comedy, "Bottoms" hit the theaters over the weekend.
Sennott, meanwhile, has also starred in several other movies and television shows, including the movie "Shiva Baby" in 2020 and the ABC sitcom "Call Your Mother," which also starred Kyra Sedgwick, in 2021.

She also has a recurring role on the HBO drama "The Idol," which is streaming on Max and stars Lily-Rose Depp, who is actor Johnny Depp's daughter.
"Bottoms," meanwhile, features a comedic storyline about two, unpopular high school students, who are also LGBTQ, who engage in various shenanigans prior to graduation.
The film is rated R, so it's not appropriate for families looking to see their hometown girl, but her work and standup comedy is visible throughout YouTube, streaming services and other outlets.
It should be noted that Sennott's content is for mature audiences.
Sennott's career has caught the attention of Simsbury Selectman Eric Wellman, who posted about her and the film over the weekend.
Wellman touched on some positive reviews Sennott has received for "Bottoms."
"No surprise to anyone who has seen Rachel's comedic performances...going back to her star turn as Madame Thenardier in SHS's 2014 production of 'Les Miserables,'" wrote Wellman on Facebook.
Sennott's rise was chronicled in a feature story by the Washington Post last week in advance of the release of "Bottoms."
