Simsbury Aims To Make One-Way Street A Two-Way Road
Simsbury Town Manager Maria Capriola seeks $160,000 in state funding to convert Station Street back to a two-way road.

SIMSBURY, CT — A one-way street downtown could soon become a two-way street, something local leaders say will improve traffic flow and better serve businesses in that area.
The Simsbury Board of Selectmen unanimously approved a plan Aug. 8 to authorize Simsbury Town Manager Maria Capriola to seek $160,000 in state funding to convert Station Street, now a one-way road, back to a two-way road.
The selectmen-approved motion specifically states Capriola can submit for approval a State of Connecticut Small Town Economic Assistance Program (STEAP) grant application.

"The project consists of converting Station Street from a one-way road to a two-way road with additional proposed on-street parking spaces, new sidewalks and associated appurtenances," reads a town summary of the plan.
"The purpose of this project is to better provide more efficient vehicular traffic flow from Eno Memorial Hall parking lot and to better serve the retail buildings along Station Street and Railroad Street."

Part of the STEAP grant requirements is a $40,000 town match, which has already been budgeted in the town's 2022-23 capital project budget, town officials said.
Selectmen also authorized Capriola to "execute any and all agreements, contracts and documents" required to get the STEAP cash.
