Board of Finance Meeting October 15, 2024

I would like to have the Board of Finance review all the support services delivered to the students by the Board of Education to determine whether using case-by-case consultants would reduce benefits and longevity costs while providing appropriate professional services.

The Board of Finance should review all the tax abatements and exemptions given to businesses and farms to determine whether reducing their tax burden adds any value to the viability of the business and replace them on the tax rolls.

There should be an effort to have a Zero-Based budget with all programs on the table for review.

The recreation department budget has had deficits over the years this should be reviewed.

The Board of Education non-lapsing account should be reviewed for allocation of these funds.

The increased tax burden on the taxpayers and the high Mill Rate has made Simsbury non-competitive in the market place.

All the rental apartments competing with housing ownership, will reduce the value in the housing market.

It is the duty of the Board of Finance to give direction to the Board of Selectmen and the Board of Education to reduce expenditures while delivering cost-effective budgets to the taxpayers.
