Simsbury Boy Scouts Look To Grow Membership

The organization is hosting a special information session Saturday to promote troop expansion.

SIMSBURY, CT — Local Boy Scouts of America groups in town are hosting a special event Saturday aimed at growing their ranks.

BSA Scouting organizations in Simsbury are hosting a Discover Scouting Day on Saturday May 13 at the Simsbury Historical Society, 800 Hopmeadow St., from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine.

"Scouting is a time-honored tradition that has helped shape the lives of generations of young people," wrote Simsbury Boy Scouts in a release. "Scouts learn important skills such as leadership, teamwork, and self-reliance, all while having fun and exploring the great outdoors."

Discover Scouting Day will give potential scouts and families a chance to meet Simsbury Scouts and learn more about what the organization has to offer.

There will be games, activities, and demonstrations of scouting skills, as well as information on how to join and get involved.

Parents and guardians will also have the opportunity to ask questions and meet the volunteers.

There are programs for both boys and girls — Cub Scouts covering ages 5 through 11 and Scouts BSA covering ages 11 through 18.

"We're excited to welcome new members to our scouting family," said scoutmaster Jen Hosack, scoutmaster of Troop 76G and Dave McElligott, scoutmaster of Troop 76B in Simsbury. "Discover Scouting Day is a great opportunity to experience the adventure and fun of Scouting first-hand. We hope to see lots of new faces and share the values of Scouting with our community."
