SIMSBURY BOYS LACROSSE WINS SEASON OPENER IN OT

The Simsbury High boys lacrosse team opened its regular season Friday night with a 6-5 victory over the Rebels from New Fairfield.  After getting up 4-1 early in the game, the Trojans saw their lead erased, with New Fairfield going on a scoring streak and then tying the game in the final minutes.  As the clock ran down, a clutch save by Simsbury goalie Tim Maher brought the game to overtime.

While Simsbury dominated time of possession throughout the game, they had to contend with the Rebels' well-disciplined zone defense, making scoring opportunities a challenge.  The Trojans' persistence paid off when Aaron Riccio found an opening with eight seconds left in overtime, bringing the Trojans the win.

Other Simsbury scorers were Richard Rorick, Mason Burr, John Ryan, and Nolan Thompson.  Defenseman Cormack Mulshine also netted a goal.  Fellow defenseman Peter Sconzo had an impressive showing, holding New Fairfield's star midfielder to zero points in the game.

Next up for the Trojans:  Newington at the Simsbury High School turf on Tuesday, 4/9, at 7PM.
