Simsbury VFW Helping Local Veterans All Month Long
It is collecting donations as part of the annual VFW Poppy Drive, as well as for its annual new clothing drive.
SIMSBURY, CT — November is an important month in Simsbury, especially in the veterans community, where the local VFW will conduct is annual Poppy Drive and clothing collection.
The Metacomet VFW Post 1926 will conduct its annual Veterans Day Buddy Poppy Drive and month-long holiday new clothing drive for veterans in the Rocky Hill Veterans Home as well as for veterans in Simsbury.
The Metacomet Post 1926, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Simsbury, hosted its Buddy Poppy Drive outside Fitzgerald’s Foods, 710 Hopmeadow St., last weekend.

Proceeds benefited veterans in need and programs that assist veterans in the Farmington Valley.
To make a mail-in donation, checks can be made out to Simsbury VFW Post 1926 and mailed
to: Simsbury VFW Post 1926, P.O. Box 211, Simsbury, CT 06070.

Note “Poppy Drive” on the memo line of the check.
All donations are tax deductible.
In addition, from Friday, Nov. 11, through Dec. 11, VFW Post 1926 will host its annual new clothing drive for veterans in need at the Department of Veterans’ Affairs Home in Rocky Hill.
This year donations will also be given to veterans at the Virginia Connelly Residence and Dr. Owen L. Murphy Apartments, both located in Simsbury.
Donated items will be used as holiday gifts, so all clothing items are to be new, in original packaging with tags and unwrapped.
Clothing most needed for men and women are sweaters, coats, slippers, sweatpants and sweatshirts, gloves, socks, etc. Sizes needed are from Medium to 4XL.
Also requested are personal items such as body wash, shampoo and conditioners, powders, lotions, deodorant, batteries, postage stamps and gift cards for music or food stores.
Drop-off collection boxes will be located at: Simsbury Fire Department main station, 871 Hopmeadow St.; Simsbury Library, 725 Hopmeadow St.; St. Mary Church, 946 Hopmeadow St.; Tractor Supply store, 1603 Hopmeadow St.; and St. Catherine of Siena Church, 265 Stratton Brook Road, West Simsbury.
Thanks to senior Sofia Scholtz, Simsbury High School located at 34 Farms Village Road will have a collection box for students to drop off donations.
All donations are tax deductible. A receipt may be requested from the Simsbury VFW Post.
Monetary donations for the clothing drive can be sent to: Simsbury VFW Post 1926, P.O. Box 211, Simsbury, CT 06070. Indicate: “Clothing Drive 2022” in the memo line of the check.
A reminder the annual Veterans Day ceremonies will take place at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11 at the Simsbury Veterans Memorial at the entrance to Simsbury Public Library.
If it rains, it will be held in the auditorium of Eno Memorial Hall, 754 Hopmeadow St., Simsbury.
The public is welcome to attend.
