The Simsbury Crew team kicked off the Spring Season at the Tabor Cup, which was held this past Saturday, April 15th, at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Massachusetts.
The Tabor Cup is an annual competition between Tabor Academy (MA) and Simsbury High. While other crews also row against the Simsbury and Tabor boats, including Stonington (CT), East Lyme (CT), Boston Latin (MA), Shrewsbury (MA), and St. John's (MA), the competition for the Cup remains just between Simsbury and Tabor. This year Simsbury was victorious, bringing home the Simsbury/ Tabor Pincombe Cup.
It was a lovely, sunny spring day, yet varying winds throughout the day made some teams struggle with the floating starts. Despite a few boat-stopping crabs being caught and some last-minute illnesses, all school teams raced determinedly along the 1.5-kilometer course. The Simsbury Crew’s women’s 1st Varsity boat came 5th, in a time of 5.55:7. The women’s 3rd boat came 4th, with a finishing time of 6:37.6. The men’s 1st varsity boat achieved took the 3rd spot with a time of 5:08.3. The men’s 2nd boat completed the race in the time of 6:05.0. The men’s 4th boat came in 5th place, with a time of 6:37.6.

The Simsbury Crew team will be returning to Lake Quinsigamond on April 22nd for the Exeter Invitational.
