Simsbury Crew Competes in the CPSRA Regatta

The Connecticut Public School Rowing Association (CPSRA) held its 25th Championship Regatta for public high school crews at Lake Waramaug on Sunday, May 19. Simsbury competed against other Connecticut public high. school rowing teams. Their opponents were from Avon, Stonington, Farmington, Glastonbury, Guilford, East Lyme and EO Smith.

The girl’s 3rd boat won themselves a silver medal when they came second in their race. The Girls 2nd varsity boat earned themselves the 3rd place and received a bronze medal.The girl's 1st varsity boat were rowing hard and vying for second place, but a boat stopping crab resulted in them completing the race in 5th place. Girl's head coach, Ann Carabillo, said 'I am so proud of how the girls fought back and qualified for NEIRAs'

The boy’s novice boat rowed over the finish line in 5th place. The boy’s 3rd boat rowed with determination and claimed the 2nd spot, along with a silver medal.The boy’s 2nd varsity boat, took the 4th place in their race. The boy’s 1st varsity boat, unfortunately, knocked oars with another team, thus making it hard to get back into the race. They didn’t give up and gave of their all, but were unable to make up the time that they last. They finished the race in 6th place.The boy’s head coach, Amy Miranda, said, ‘The day saw great racing from all crews! Racing is not about the place you come in, but how well you work as a team. Everyone came together and preformed to their best ability and I could not be more proud of each of them!’

The Spring rowing season concludes for Simsbury Crew this Memorial Day weekend at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association (NEIRA) Championships at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA. The girl’s 1st and 2nd varsity boats have qualified to race in this regatta.
