Simsbury Crew Competes in the Head of the Charles Regatta

On Sunday, October 22, the Simsbury Crew Girl’s 1st Varsity boat travelled to Boston, Massachusetts, to participate in the much anticipated Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR). The first HOCR was held on October16, 1965. It is the world’s largest two day rowing event. Today more than 11,000 athletes from around the world compete in 55 different race events at the HOCR.

Some of the Girl’s V1 team mates also travelled to Boston to support the girls and cheer them on. It was awesome to see some of the Simsbury Crew alumni also competing in the regatta.

The girls rowed a great race and the coxswain steered an outstanding course, despite the very strong head winds. They competed against 90 other boats and managed to claim the 68th spot. Their coach, Ann Carabillo, said, ‘ I am very proud of this group of young athletes. They rowed with discipline, tenacity and heart. I could not be happier and I look forward to the spring season and hopefully returning to the HOCR next year.’
