Simsbury Crew Competes in the Head of the Charles Regatta

On Sunday, October 20, the Simsbury Crew Girl’s 1st Varsity (Avery fish, Gillian Philbrick, Anika Fox, Rachel Anderson, Elizabeth Bache, Katie Orosz, Bella Giordano, Eva Berry and Mia Wismar) and the Boy’s 1st Varsity (Naomi Restituyo, Alex Baroncelli, Andre Sardinha, Chris Morris, Ben Head, Jonah Lipar, Brandon Capalbo, Surya Patel and Skyler Muth) boats traveled to Boston, Massachusetts, to participate in the legendary Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR). The first HOCR was held on October 16, 1965. It is the world’s largest 3-day regatta. Today, more than 12,000 athletes from around the world compete in 73 different race events at the HOCR. Over 400,000 spectators flock to the course to watch the action over the three days.

Family and friends of the Simsbury rowers, as well as Simsbury Crew alumni, also traveled up to Boston to support and cheer them on.

The girls and boys both rowed great races and thoroughly enjoyed this experience. Their girl’s head coach, Ann Carabillo, said, “They performed very well, despite the lack of water at times, this season. I am very proud of them for executing the race plan.” When asked for a comment, Amy Miranda, the boy’s head coach said, “I am incredibly proud of how well they all worked together. They made amazing technical changes before the race and held them throughout the race. With how little water we saw this season, HOCR was an amazing experience overall.”
