Simsbury Crew Competes in the Head of the Fish Regatta

The Simsbury crew team were awake very early Sunday morning to travel to Saratoga Springs in New York. They competed in the Head of the Fish Regatta, which is located on Fish Creek, and has been held annually since 1986. It is one of the largest regattas in the country. This time Simsbury entered 4 boys boats and 4 girls boats.

The team arrived at the race only to be met with very cold conditions and thick mist. The organizers had to delay the start of the regatta by 2 hours, as they waited for the mist to lift. Despite this delay and the chilly air, the team were ready and anxious to get their boats on the water once the racing finally started.

The skies cleared and the sun came out, giving the rowers oar-some weather conditions to row in. The novice boys were first to race. They came 17th against 24 other boats. The girls first Varsity boat came 20th out of 30 boats. The girls second Varsity boat rowed against 21 other boats and came out in 15th place. The girls third Varsity boat took the 11th spot out of 12 boats. Next, the boys first Varsity boat rowed against 29 other boats and achieved 14th place. The boys second Varsity boat came 16th out of 22 boats. In the final race of the day the novice girls came 20th out of 22 boats.
