Simsbury Crew Competes in Head of the Horseman Regatta

On Saturday, October 28, the Simsbury crew entered 8 boats into the Head of the Horsemen Regatta, in Glastonbury. After weeks of miserable weather conditions, Saturday treated the rowers and spectators to a beautiful, warm fall day. Conditions were perfect and the location of the race on the Farmington River was breathtaking.

Simsbury competed against 4 other schools, namely: Glastonbury, Avon, Farmington and EO Smith. All the rowers gave of the very best and rowed hard. The Women’s Novice boat came 3rd out of 7 boats, the Women’s 3rd Varsity boat competed in a 3 boat race and came 2nd, the Women’s 2nd Varsity boat took the 3rd spot out of 4 and the Women’s 1st Varsity boat competed against 4 other boats and took 3rd place. The Men’s Novice boat competed against 8 other boats and took 5th place, the Men’s 3rd Varsity boat came 4th out of 4 boats, the Men’s 1st Varsity boat 3rd out of 5 boats and the Men’s 2nd Varsity boat were victorious, claiming the 1st place in their race.

The highlight of the day was the final race of the regatta. All five schools mixed up their rowers, male and female, and made up 19 mixed boats who raced against each other along the same route they had competed on earlier that day. This was truly a fun experience that they all thoroughly enjoyed.
