Simsbury Crew Competes in two Regattas this past weekend
Kent Invitational at Lake Waramaug and the Novice Regatta in Middletown
On May 14th, Simsbury Crew competed against teams from across Connecticut at the Kent Invitational. The competing teams were Brunswick, Kent, Salisbury, Hotchkiss, Farmington, East Lyme, and Sacred Heart. Simsbury raced six boats on a scenic 1500-meter stretch of the lake in fabulous weather conditions.
The girls first varsity boat finished fourth out of six in their race with an excellent time of 5:26.9. They were mere seconds behind East Lyme. The girls second varsity also came in fourth out of six finishing strong with a time of 5:44.9. The girls novice boat raced against three other boats and came in second with a time of 5:53.1.
The boys first Varsity fought hard and crossed the finish line in third place at 4:39.0. The second varsity came solid at 5:12.7 taking fifth. Third Varsity had a seat-to-seat battle and came in seconds ahead of Salisbury finishing at 5:15.6 coming in third overall. All raced well against tough competition.

Instead of recovering from the races on Saturday, the Simsbury boys and girls novice boats competed in the Novice Regatta on Sunday, May 15th in Middletown. This regatta is for first-time rowers to compete on a 750-meter course. It was a dual/triple matchup with double elimination and these Simsbury athletes showed their true grit and endurance by racing six times! Both the boys and girls Simsbury boats came in at an impressive second place behind Glastonbury. It was an exciting day of racing!

NEIRA (New England Interscholastic Rowing Association) will be raffling off a brand new Concept2 Rowing Machine. Tickets are only $10 and only 1000 of them will be sold. All proceeds from the raffle go towards NEIRA costs (Conference, Regatta, Dues, Insurance, etc.), with the goal of keeping NEIRA as accessible to all as possible.
