Simsbury Crew kicks off the Season at Head of the Riverfront Regatta

Simsbury High School’s crew team competed in their first fall season race at the Head of the Riverfront Regatta, in Hartford, on Sunday, October 6. They competed against high schools from all over the Northeast.

Beautiful fall weather and near-perfect racing conditions made for a pleasant rowing experience on the Connecticut River for all involved. For the team’s freshmen, this regatta marked their debut in a competitive rowing event.

The boats launched from the Riverside Park and made their way to the start situated in the Wethersfield Cove area. They then raced an approximately 2.25 mile course to the finish line at the Mortensen Riverfront Plaza.

Seven Simsbury Crew boats participated. The fourth, third, and second boy’s boats participated in the Men’s 2nd Junior 8+ flight against 30 other boats. The 4th boat finished 28th, the 3rd boat 25th, and the second boat came in 21st. The girl's second and third boats then competed in the Women’s 2nd Junior 8+ against 18 other boats. The third boat finished 13th, and the second boat came 12th. The girl's first varsity boat competed in the Women’s 1st Junior 8+ race against 15 other boats and achieved 10th place. To end off the day the boy's 1st varsity boat rowed against 27 other crews and came in 24th.

The Simsbury crew will be participating in the NE Regionals on Lake Quisigamond in Worcester, MA, on Sunday 14th October.
